Exclamation Fixed the "White Planet"-Issue

Hey fellow ATI-users,

I managed to get LOVE working by modding my drivers. I had replaced some libraries with some older ones with a working OpenGL implementation, this means that Vertex Buffer Objects work properly now. The LOVE engine heavily uses VBO tech to achieve very high performance (See "Technologic" article on the blog). A big problem that has affected ATI users and caused severe frustration is that the driver developers never bothered to fix the botched implementation, they basically unofficially dropped down support for OpenGL since 2007 (!!).

So, what I have done is replace the newer libraries with the older working ones in my driver setup for catalyst 9.5, the older working libraries are from catalyst 7.11. If you feel extremely confident and capable you could attempt this too, it is basically a careful notepad job. (old files being atioglx2.dl_, atioglxx.dl_ and atiok3x2.dl_)

I'll attempt to put together a tutorial later if I can, or even rather do the changes myself and upload it up.

Oh, please do. It is so frustrating not to be able to play this piece of art.

I would be glad if you could post your modded drivers or at least a tutorial how to modify the stock drivers. Don't want to be stuck with the LQ-mode forever.

Been really busy unfortunately and my internet connection has taken a hit, so I am out of action.

But it isn't impossible to do it yourself, you have to open catalyst driver installer exe with winzip or similiar instead of executing it, then drag out all the contents into a folder and rewrite the opengl library files with those from the 7.11 driver installer. Then edit the installer setup scripts to recognize your card as valid by pasting the graphics card entries from the 7.11 driver installer. It is tedious but simple.

If something goes wrong, you don't like it or it doesn't work for you, windows always keeps backups of previous drivers, if you go into the hardware settings and onto your graphics card properties you can press rollback under the driver tab.

Uhm, if you're playing with system drivers, you really should rename/backup the files you replace, yourself...

Thank you very much, I just did a fresh driver install with the replaced OpenGL files and finally my ATI card runs Love in high quality mode!
The only side effect: With the current OpenGL implementation I get 30-40 fps more, but the older one runs Love at still 60-70 fps so I can live with that.
Anyway, thanks a lot for posting the fix.
