It was Wednesday when i decided to finally figure out how Teamspeak works. The guys that were in there had a lot of fun with me because my 3 years old kid was around the room talking close to the computer and plus to this I'm completely noob about TM.

Once Teamspeak was Up, I started to make the game run on my machine (MacOsx). Love used to run with this setup: Installing Wine on Mac OS X

But now it doesn't. So I lost friday and saturday during the day trying to configure the game, asking for help on forums and TeamSpeak etc. Later, I decided to try again this software: WineBottler - Run Windows Programs directly on OS X, and it works! Yay!

And finally, saturday night, after two days of frustration, I was able to join the party. Quite fast. Since I was a teenager my brother and I spent MOUTHS trying to run some PC games. The old times were back XD.

First impression: people at Teamspeak are gentle and funny.

Second impression: the default "build tool" is working quite well at the moment. The balance between how much it works and how many time it gets until recharge is needed is good.

I really like Eskil designs for the "girls-players" even though I know they are all controlled by dudes XD. It's very difficult to get some nice screenshots from players characters. The character's movements rocks, I think they fit the style so well!

So, I had set some goals to myself: take some pictures with players with no instructions on the game screen and simple backgrounds.

Try to do this for yourself! It's near impossible! After 60 screens I got only seven pictures I nearly like. I'm the worst photographer ever! : )) Check It out:

Picasa Web Albums - ChicOrtiz - LOVE

AI behavior have improved significantly. Just the fact that most of the time it's non aggressive until you shoot it is awesome. Then it behaves quite like Sid Meyers Civilization AI, which I also, LOVE.

Later on, Two interesting stories arrived:

1) Once upon a time... I was spawned at a huge Island surrounded by cliffs with a bunch of other visitors. There was a lot of high eight grass on It, so It was very difficult to get insight about how the base was being organized. Nobody seamed to understand how the building tool works or how anything works. So, I decided to dig the underground alone starting from the cliff, so nobody noticed what I was doing for awhile. When the energy from the building tool dropped to 0 I just suicide at the cliff and started digging again and again. I nearly dig the whole Island until someone noticed It, and it was quite cool, because the low level was very plain and easy to understand. So everyone decided to destroy the up level and move the base to the "underground", and I went to sleep. I don't know how this history evolves which is quite cool also. :)

2) Once upon... An interesting plain base surrounded by cable relays. But it doesn't have any "architectural intention" on it. I found a very smooth and straight stair and decided to start a kind of "axis" growing from it (a road surrounded by walls). It was all going nice until... AI approached. And the coolest thing it's wasn't an aggressive AI. So, everyone decided not to shot It. But the bastard decided to stole a token and run shooting at me. I was not able to build the road anymore and I was completely pissed and all, shouting for help via text chat when...

The cavalry arrived, killed the the AI and restored the token... It was awesome! Truly unique and enormous fun :)

The only FPS game that sometimes establish this kind of storytelling for me was Battle Field 1942.

Mini review with weird English by ChicO I hope you all enjoy.

Nice weekend, thanks to Eskil!

Yours,

Ortiz.

PS: please fell invited to participate or even hijack the whole thread everyone!

After an amazing weekend, some from morning til night weeks of work following four weeks of exhausting traveling, I feel happy if somewhat spent. I want to thank everyone who participated, who I spoke to over teamspeak and who game me feedback an bug reports this weekend.

There is however one thing I would like to address before I stretch myself out; usability. Many players who play Love this weekend became very confused about what they should do, how to play and how things work.

In my mind, Love is a very logical game, its just not the same logic as you will find in other games. I have always considered there to be a big difference between user friendly and beginner friendly, and while Love is a very user friendly game, it is not a very beginner friendly game. There are a number of things I could do to make the game more beginner friendly, but I don't think they would matter too much in the grand scheme of things without either vastly simplifying the game, or making it much more similar to other games.

Love was designed as an experiment, as a project about pushing the envelope of what is possible, and to explore new designs that has never been tried before. It was also designed for my own personal enjoyment and on all these accounts it has been a huge success. But it worries me that I have overestimated people willingness to explore something new. It may not matter too much to Love, since the costs are low, but it does not inspire others to try to innovate and create more open ended games that are truly interactive rather then funneling you along, something I think we really need in gaming.

Ive been trying to "Fix" Love lately, but this weekend a few interesting things happened, I added some thing, and after listening to the community defend the game to those who wanted it to change, I had this strong feeling that Love needs to be Love. Yes I dabbled with progression, and I have tried to add things to make it easier, but in the end I dropped most of the progression and realized that I like some things should remain a mystery. The thing that really made me feel i hit on something special, was the possibility of friendly relations with the Tribes, something that pushes it even further in to uncharted territory.

Does that mean that I think that people who think that the game is confusing or difficult are wrong? No, not at all, If that is your reaction, that is your reaction and there is nothing wrong with that, but rather then trying to change to accommodate, perhaps Love should be what it is, and instead we should try to explain what it is better.

That's a nice thought for life in general, the idea of being yourself, and work to be better understood, rather then trying to change to be like everybody else. What do you think?

Settlement's in Love are the...

Joining a Settlement
To find a settlement simply follow the arrows drawn on screen, if there is no arrow, then you are either already part of a settlement, or no settlement exists. If this is the case, attempt to find a monolith token and establish your own. The monoliths form the heart of a settlement. If they are destroyed then the settlement dies with it.
The monolith is a tall building with red vertical markings on two sides, making it very hard to miss.
* When you don't belong to a settlement you need only walk into the vicinity of a Monolith to join.

* You can respawn at the Monolith
* You can start terraforming the land around the Monolith once you have joined
* You can pickup tokens in the wild and place them in the range of the settlements monolith

Founding a Settlement
There are two conditions that allow you to found a new Settlement:

1. There is no settlement (you don't have a compass that shows you the way to the next settlement and you have no monolith icon on the taskbar, so your are not a member of a settlement). Any token you pick up will turn into a monolith token that can be placed anywhere you like.

2. For every 10+1 players you can pickup another token that turns into a monolith token to form a new settlement. (11, 21, 31, etc.) New monolith tokens can only be picked up when you don't carry any other tokens. Maximum is 8 settlements per server.

Placing a monolith is simple: Just select the token with the F-key (F1-F4) and click the tile where you want to have it. Voila, a new settlement!

Grab jump
If you are trying to access a higher surface that you cannot quite jump onto, you'll find that performing a second jump as you come into contact with the wall will allow you to grab onto the ledge and lift yourself over.

Water swimming/diving
In order to swim underwater, one must find and equip a dive token. Without this token, the water will quickly kill you upon contact.

Hello there, hoping I can get a quick answer since the free week-end only lasts a week-end (rly)

So I was really excited about trying out this game, downloaded the client, extracted it but it just doesn't start.

I am on Windows 7 x86.
I am not running it from the .zip
I tried pretty much every compatibility mode.
I also tried changing game resolution in what appeared to be a config file.
Hardware specs than may help :
ASUS M2N-SLI
AMD Athlonx2 6000+
Sapphire HD 4870
I have a dual screen, one 1280*1024 and another 1680*1050 (2nd is my main screen, and LOVE is trying to run on it) maybe the problem comes from this ?

Anyway looking for advice, I did a lot of Googling and browsing forums but didn't seem to find anything about this issue.

Best regards,
