Geography of love

Love's world is a procedurally generated planet that the player and AI inhabit. It is made of 14 unique regions, each with its own way of procedurally generating its landscape, ranging from lush beaches to subarctic glaciers.

List of Regions

Cardinal directions

The world in LOVE is a cube smoothed onto a sphere, as discussed in the video link at the end of this article. Thus, the world has six pyrospheres - like six cube faces. The corners where three pyrosheres meet have the grid going in three different directions, which allows for intesting settlement designs like Y-shaped buildings.

The names of the pyrospheres are:

  • Nove
  • Sota
  • Ereca
  • Fidorra [previously known as Widas]
  • Idra
  • Rile

To help with directions, it can be useful to keep one point (like 63:63 N, the centre of the Nove pyrosphere) saved in the HUD to use as a compass arrow.

Coordinates

Each of the six pyrospheres contains a grid of 127 x 127 terrain cells, numbered from 0-127 in the X and Y coordinate directions. If you unroll the grid so the first coordinate is always X, and the second coordinate is always Y, the world map looks something like this:

Laid out like this, the coordinate system is contiguous. The only other possible contiguous variations would be shifting the entire system left to right (for example, attaching F to S instead of N).

Outdated Trivia

Now that Widas was renamed Fidorra, the proposed etymology below is in-accurate.

Four are named after North, East, South and West, and the extra two are named after I and R for [someone find the reason for this please].
