Because LOVE is so open ended, players are free to do as they choose within their settlement. This gives the game a unique style that can be enjoyed by everyone. Because of the large amount of freedom given to players, discrepancies may arise on how to preform certain tasks or carry about the building and maintaining of a settlement. This guide is not meant to be an absolute set of rules on how to play the game, but rather a set of suggestions that players should consider when interacting with other people and building an effective settlement.
Dos and Don'ts
DO Be a constructive member of the settlement. Help other new players and make good use of your playing time by being productive.
DO Use your time wisely by offering your hand at constructing settlement structures, searching the landscape for useful tokens, or defending the settlement.
DO Use common sense when placing tokens. Place tokens in alike groups and remember to use Efficiency Umbrellas whenever possible.
DO Use the chat system to your advantage. Vocalize to other players your intentions to help build a sense of community and to keep other members in the loop.
DO Attempt to build structures that are visually appealing. Nobody likes to look at ugly earth walls, use columns, windows, edges, and even terrain to make a functional base that leaves interesting ruins.
DO Place forcefields strategically, preferably near the Monolith to protect it from AI artillery.
DON'T Assume leadership because you placed the Monolith. LOVE is about working together, one person cannot assume control of any settlement.
DON'T Gather power pods if you are not building or gathering ammo. Power is a precious resource in LOVE, do not waste it. It is easy to accumulate thousands of power needlessly.
DON'T Clutter base floor area with tokens like windmills. Tokens like these belong on walls and out of the way.
DON'T Make multiple side/back entrances in base walls. This allows AI units to invade bases behind the backs of defenders. Bases should have one footpath entrance that can be easily defended.
DON'T Use the smooth edit tool to create platforms but leave massive terrain columns all over the base. Plan ahead to create platforms or build them over empty space.
DON'T Ruin other players hard work by deleting structures or tokens. If it looks nice, leave it. Build in another part of the settlement.
