Site Config and Extensions?

Just wondering if you (site admin) will be doing any site configs? IE: uploads / extensions / wiki logo / clean URL (IE: www.gaminglove.net/wiki/Main_Page vs www.gaminglove.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page )

File upload?

The file upload function is disabled. I think this should be enabled so that we can get some screenshots in here. They could explain things better than writing about it.

Tools vs. tokens

Some naming decisions need to be made, I think, between tools, tool tokens, tokens you collect in the world, tokens placed in settlements, and stuff like that. What do you call the thing sitting out in the world on the altars? What are the things called that you click inside your settlement to set one of your action buttons? Should there be different pages for the token and the tool itself? --Abrasax 21:38, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Well, here's my thoughts:
  • We will have one page covering the Altar Tokens, named "Altar". That page will handle everything about it.
  • Tokens that belong/spawn in the world are World Tokens, and are designated by adding them to this category.
  • Tokens and the ones with Tools will have their pages combined. The page will be named with the suffix token, but will cover the tool within it. Then, we will include it in the Category:Tools, along with the other categories it belongs to. That way, it's slightly more organized. (For example: Window tool -> Window Tool Token)

Could you do Token:Window Tool Object:Window Tool World:Window Tool or something like that? So the "xxxx:" part at the start instantly denotes the sort of thing it is. Just my 2cents Daworm 01:37, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
I suppose that could work. I completely forgot about namespaces. Hurr. I'll get to work on separating them now. Speaking of which, should we make it a namespace? Or just name them like that? If it's a namespace, you would need to do this: here--Heroic 02:13, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
I say just name it, if it's custom namespaces wiki search won't work by default. Daworm 23:40, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Category Structure

I suggest some category structuring...

So all categories are in a category (all but 1) of some sorts, but in a logical order.

IE:

  • Browse
    • Worlds
    • Terms
    • Media
      • Screenshots
        • Towns
        • World
        • ...
      • Concept Art
      • Videos
    • ...
    • ...

The above is a base example so the top level would be "browse" which usually contains the Main Page and perhaps the initial "help" page or anything else that would be a primary "landing" page for the wiki. Then under that you would have "Worlds" "Terms" "Media" "..." "..." where these sub-categories are confirmed and created as needed.

Then under each of these again you would have relevant subcategories, in the case of Media there could be "Screenshots" "Videos" "Concept Art" and a step-down AGAIN would have "Towns" "World" "..." (and more as appropriate) sub categories.

Interested in making this happen? If so, based on what's known so far how could the above categories be expanded?

Main Page naming

Some wiki's (at least community run wiki's) are taking to the habit of moving the main page of a wiki from Main Page to a relevant named page indicating what the wiki is. IE: Love Wiki.

So that would make the URL on load be : http://gaminglove.net/wiki/Love_Wiki/ : this helps a little with SEO etc. any thoughts? Objections? Suggestions?
